If you like books at reasonable prices, you've got to check it out! We recently found a gorgeous framed print from an encyclopaedia, so there might be something for those bare walls too!

It's a little jumbled in places, but be honest, isn't it more fun that way?

I'm taking one star off for the cigarette smell. It's not that bad but it's there.

There’s a good selection here but the stacks of books are disorganized and are prone to tumble a bit, so be careful and browse with caution. The cigarette smell inside is too much. Used book stores already are prone to smell a bit because the books aren’t new, but adding cigarette smoke is unnecessary.

This bookstore is a hidden gem tucked away in downtown Metuchen. Sure, the place could use a bit of an update and clean, but that's the charm of a used bookstore. The vast range of all genres of books is incredible, you can tell the owner has been collecting for years. Speaking of the owner, he is extremely knowledgeable, very welcoming, and always helpful. He engages in conversation if asked a question, and has been nothing but warm and hospitable. Excited to come back and explore more!

Not sure what people have experienced but in my personal opinion this owner has always been very kind to my husband & I. He has the best prices for used books in New Jersey. You can not compete with his store price wise. I’ve been to them all. Regarding the cigarettes - have you smelled the rest of Jersey? It’s not that serious. I think whoever has been complaining are transplants from out of state. I always stop in whenever I’m around because I moved half an hour away. I buy books by the box. GREAT store. If it ever closes down I’ll be devastated. Amazing prices, friendly owner, great selection for size of store.

Owner is extremely rude. I walked in today with my friend just browsing since there was a sign up stating “book store open”. Not only did the owner not greet us when we said hello, but he made sure to stop us on our way out with some remarks. He asked “what made you want to stop in?” We responded saying we were curious to see what books were there. He replied, “you don’t read. Why are you in here?” . Appalled and disgusted that this disgruntled elderly man had assumed that me and my friend—I of which graduated with an English Literature degree and am an English TEACHER— could possibly not read. Based off what exactly? That we are young women? Do not go here. He does not deserve your business.

Very enjoyable little old-time neighborhood used book shop!
I stop in whenever I am anywhere in the vicinity. Most times I go home with at least one good find! I try to always pick up at least one item, to help make sure such a now-rare type of establishment stays open!
One suggestion? If the owner would put in an hour or two a day, to organize the collection, I’m pretty sure he would sell more! Buyers could get through much more in the somewhat limited time available. I’ve found a number of good items ‘buried’ behind and/or under piles. I’m getting close to seventy, and it’s somewhat tough to sometimes GET on my knees, maybe two or three times, let alone STAY like that for thirty or more minutes.
Overall, looking forward to the next visit! Stay well, man!

The place has a large/varied selection that seems priced pretty fairly and that's about the only positives I've got. It's a small place with some attempt at organization which I can get past, but if I'm being honest it's kind of a struggle browsing this store. What truly turned me off though was the owner smoking and going on about "the democrats" and "illegals" with some guy while I was there. I'm not particularly political by any means but I'd like to shop without hearing that unpleasantness or the stink of cigarettes.
